PowerStore in a Box

PowerStore in a Box: The flexible demo and test solution for our partners and their customers

The mobile PowerStore test environment for PoCs, training and individual demos – available at the Solution Center from July 2025.

With PowerStore in a Box, we are expanding our offering at the Spreitenbach Solution Center by adding a fully integrated and equipped Dell PowerStore test environment. The mobile rack contains everything you need for practical training, proofs of concept (PoCs), preparation for certifications or individual tests, including:

  • 2x PowerStore 500T (software version 4.1)
  • 2x Dell PowerEdge R6615 servers
  • 2 x 6610 Fiber Channel Switches
  • 2x 5212 Ethernet Switches
  • Pre-installed VMware vSphere 8.0 ESXi environment

Partners also have the opportunity to install and test their own virtualization platforms, such as Proxmox or SUSE Virtualization (formerly Harvester). The PowerStore in a Box environment is available at our Demo Center. (Note: Partners can also have the environment delivered to their premises. Partners must organize the transport themselves and pay all the associated costs. Maximum duration 4 weeks). Our partners can have the environment delivered to their site temporarily for a maximum usage period of four weeks.

System integration and compatibility with PowerStore

In version 4.1 of PowerStoreOS, Dell Technologies offers some major enhancements and new features specifically aimed at improving the flexibility, efficiency, intelligence and security of storage systems. The key innovations include AI-powered analytics, along with improved security and
resilience. This provides companies with new opportunities to use PowerStore in a whole host of environments, significantly expanding its range of applications.

Performance enhancement and data management

Native metro volumes for Windows and Linux: by rolling out PowerStoreOS 4.0, Dell has developed a highly available storage solution that is particularly well-suited to companies needing seamless, redundant data storage. Native metro volume technology ensures continuous data availability without any interruptions, as these volumes support synchronous active/active replication across large distances (metro distances). In turn, this enables data to be synchronized and kept consistent across multiple geographically disparate sites. In the event that one site experiences an outage, the redundancy means that data is available immediately – with zero loss. This feature is vitally important for applications requiring high availability and swift disaster recovery.

Data reduction rate of 5:1: in addition, PowerStoreOS 4.0 offers an impressive data reduction rate of 5:1. This high rate allows companies to use their storage space much more efficiently. Advanced data reduction technologies enable data to be compressed to a quarter of its original size, which slashes the amount of storage space required and minimizes storage costs, too. This efficiency is particularly beneficial for organizations that process and store large quantities of data, as they can enjoy hefty savings on storage costs without sacrificing performance.

Maximum performance and availability: In addition to increased efficiency, PowerStoreOS 4.1 offers an even greater range of enhanced performance features to ensure maximum system availability. This includes higher IOPS and reduced response times, ensuring that the systems maintain reliability and strong performance even under heavy loads. The integration of NVMe via TCP/IP and SmartFabric Storage Software is central to improving system performance. These technologies enable efficient use of Ethernet networks for high-speed data transmission and reduce infrastructure costs by almost 25% compared to traditional fiber channel solutions. They also simplify the management and automation of storage networks, making systems easier to scale and maintain.

These enhancements underscore Dell Technologies’ commitment to developing advanced, user-friendly storage solutions that meet the requirements of modern businesses.

DataStore and Dell Technologies – a strong pairing for innovative storage solutions: By working closely together, DataStore and Dell Technologies are able to offer not only advanced storage technologies, but also comprehensive support and expertise.

The benefits of PowerStore 4.0/4.1

  • QLC disk support: Since version 4.0, PowerStore 3200Q has supported lower-priced QLC NVMe disks. This means cheaper storage space for your data.
  • Secure snapshots: Entire file systems are protected against accidental or malicious deletion. Data integrity is ensured for compliance with regulations and legal provisions. Easy to manage via PowerStore protection policies.
  • Data-in-place upgrades: First-generation storage controllers can be replaced by second-generation controllers without interrupting operation or requiring data migration.
  • Uncompromising efficiency: Constantly available inline data reduction with an average data reduction rate of 5:1. All efficient data can be viewed graphically via AIOps (formerly CloudIQ) or directly on the system.
  • Replication: Metro Volumes supported, along with synchronous and asynchronous mirroring of volumes, volume groups and NAS servers.
  • Migration of file servers: Migrate your existing Dell or third-party file servers to PowerStore quickly and easily using the file import feature.
  • QOS for file resources: Determine how many system resources may be used by which block volumes – and now, for the first time, also by file systems.
  • Any kind of workload: One single architecture for physical, virtual and container-based applications and databases; designed for especially high availability.
